STATE LEGISLATORS OPEN LETTER

We Support The SAVE Act

As we approach November 2024, we are faced with the prospect of a huge population of noncitizens illegally voting in our upcoming elections and potentially affecting the outcome.

Our nation’s immigration laws have been ignored and twisted by the Biden Administration, leading to an average of 2 million illegal border crossings every year
since 2021. The Department of Homeland Security will not tell Congress or the American people where these illegal border crossers are, what they are doing, and what papers they are being given or asked to sign by their handlers. The Biden Administration continues to heighten the risk of noncitizens voting by promoting Executive Order 14019, a 2021 fiat that requires every federal agency to use American tax dollars to register and get out to vote all people who come into contact with that agency.

We have a massive surge of illegal aliens in our population in addition to the more than 20 million noncitizens already living in our country, no oversight of where they are or what they are doing, and a government-wide mandate to encourage voter registration without proper safeguards. It is worth noting too, in these current circumstances, that there are significant penalties for noncitizens voting in U.S. federal elections, including deportation and loss of green card status. We must close the loopholes that put the integrity of our elections at risk. We need the SAVE Act to ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in U.S. elections.

If signed into law, the SAVE Act, authored by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) would update the thirty-year old National Voter Registration Act by requiring states to obtain in-person, documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering individuals to vote in federal elections. The SAVE Act would also require states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls and hold election officials accountable to citizens by expanding penalties and private rights of action against those who would illegally enroll noncitizen voters.

The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate should immediately take up the SAVE Act and pass it. There is no time to waste—early voting in some of our states begins in September. As state legislators working in our own state capitols, we appreciate the leadership of our federal representatives on elevating the issue of noncitizens voting in our elections and we will continue to stand with them in their efforts.
